Fig 1 - Basic Inline Roll-coupling Hitch

Basic Roll-Coupling Hitch
The base model hitch package (shown in Fig. 1) weighs ~200 kg. The truck side is equipped with alignment rollers and the trailer hitch has matching alignment forks to enable the vehicles to be easily connected and disconnected. It is the alignment components that transfer roll stability between vehicles. The drawbar attachment is equipped with a shear pin to protect the vehicle structures in abusive situations and to provide manually selective roll relief when operating on uneven terrain.
Trailer Manufacturers
Please contact Wolf Trailers if you are a trailer manufacturer and want to build roll-coupled trailers under license. Because our hitch alters the structural performance of the trailer, all roll-coupled trailers are required by regulators to withstand torsional loading through the drawbar and frame. On a non-disclosure basis, Wolf Trailers will provide FEA (finite element analysis) of your trailer structures and testing services for new trailer applications. Retrofit packages for existing trailers will be available in the future subject to FEA and some load testing. As per Transport Canada regulations for altering existing vehicles, your certification will be required that your trailer is suitable for roll-coupling and the subsequent increase in GVWR.
Note: We urgently need a trailer manufacturer in Western Canada to build roll-coupled tridem pony flat deck and tilt deck equipment trailers.
Trucking Companies
Roll-coupling introduces new stresses on trailer structures however some trailers can be retrofitted for roll-coupling. If you want to participate in roll-coupling projects with purpose-built or retrofitted equipment please contact Wolf Trailer Company. Note that Wolf Trailers manufactures and tests different sizes and styles of hitches with different features for different applications.
Pony Trailers
The first tridem pony trailers to complete the testing program and meet roll-coupling manufacturing standards to carry 24 tonnes in BC are manufactured by LangFab Fabricators Ltd. in Surrey, B.C. Contact LangFab Fabricators Ltd. for new roll-coupled tridem pony trailers and converter dollies and to retrofit used LangFab pony trailers that are in acceptable condition.
Full Trailers
Wolf Trailers and Anser Manufacturing Ltd. are currently evaluating Anser quadaxle full logging trailers for roll-coupling to carry 34 tonnes.
A-Trains/LCVs
Roll-coupling also significantly improves the safety performance of A-trains to enable them to meet critical TAC safety performance measures when carrying an additional 9,000 kg per load. Roll-coupled A-dollies can also be used to improve the dynamic performance of long combination vehicles.
Contact Wolf Trailers if you need other types of roll-coupled pony trailers and roll-coupled full trailers. See more photos of roll-coupled vehicles in our "Photos" page.
